I am a teacher and a student in pedagogy and curriculum. I have been teaching in Breiðagerðisskóla but now Im in vacation because I was having a children. I have not much experiens in using information technology in theching (IT).
My interest is in using newspaper in education. I have been supervisor in that in Iceland that means schools get newspaper and workbooks for students. This is collaboration between Morgunblaðið, DV and Fræðslumiðstöð Reykjavíkur. This project is just starting in Iceland but this has been for a long time in many other country and there are many websides you can find about it for e.g. Avis is skolen and NIE. There you can find information for teacher how to use the newspaper. My idea is to do a Icelandic side about this subject. There you could find information about the project, project for teacher, websafari about media, link to another sides and so on.
I would say that me interest in IT is about using media on the web as teaching material. Students can be working some project for e.g. in geography or social studies be finding some news from some country and find out what is happening there or they can use database and look for more information. Of course we can also use all text in language teaching.
As I said before I have not much experience in information technology and I have been examine some webside that I can use as a teacher. I find great deal of good material and can name Menntagatt there can you find tasks and you can see what other teacher are doing. I also find interesting web side that Harpa Hreinsdóttir is doing kennari.is.
What bother me most, is that it is difficult to get in the computer room in my school. I was lucky to have three computer in me classroom but they were not in internet connection and I didn’t get a printer!! Thereby I could not use it as I wanted to. I find it interesant to read article from Lára Stefánsdóttir about need and plan (?) in IT. There you can find good idea about how do start and what you need if you are reconsider and prioritize.
On the conference in Akureyri last month I sow lot of things that I can use
in the future. I think there are many people doing good job in IT for schools.
It is also good to see how many teachers are starting to use IT in their work.
I also find interesant the teamwork between countries e.g. Europian
collaboration and Oðin. I think the
progress will go on and we need to be well awake to use all the quality in IT.
