IT and education

Classroom uses

In the unit classroom uses by Lara Stefansdottir, one is to analyze ones experience, teaching, expertise and interest withing IT

Experience:

In fact me and IT do not have a long history together. My first
acquaintance with the IT world, took place when I decided to enroll in the class Nám og kennsla á Netinu, although I have used computers for teaching. The Educational software published by Námsgagnastognun is very useful for teaching.

Teaching

I graduated from the Teaching University of Iceland Kennaraháskóli Íslands in 1980, I have tought since then with the ocational nursing leave. I have taught all classes and all ages both as an elementary school teacher and a class teacher. I also worked as a temporary teacher last winter at the Teaching university of Iceland where I taught first year students about mathematics and education. The majority of my carrier I taught at Seljaskoli in Reykjavik, an elementary/middle school for children aged 6-16 years, the last few years I have taught at Lindaskóli in Kopavogur. This year I am on a sabbatical studying mathematics at the University of Iceland Háskóli Íslands along with Statistical Methods and this course at the Teaching University.

Specialities:

I have lived and experienced the world of mathematics and education for the last six years. I have been studying mathematics along with giving courses for other math teachers. Currently Im with others writing textbooks on mathematics for middle school students for Námsgagnastofnun. The textbook series is called Geisli.

Interests:

Im interested in making textbooks for mathematics such that the full potential of multimedia can be exploited. Þuríður Jóna Jóhannsdóttir wrote an interesting masters-thesis called Veiđum menntun í Netiđ (Let's fish education in the net) and is about educational theories, new mediums and their influence on education and teaching. I am interested in exploring the relationship between educational trends and new discoveries in information and communication technology. In that context I found the report about distributed learning námUST and Dreifnám í Menntaskólanum á Akureyri (published spring 2002) very interesting.
