I first got interested in information and communications technology (ICT) when I attended the IT2002 conference a year ago. Prior to that I had been thinking about the graduate level in education for elementary students. After the conference I however decided to apply to study on the two years program on the graduate level in ICT in in the Icelandic University for teacers. I began began studying in autumn 2002.

My first computer experience was during my years of study in the University of Lund, Sweden, around 1980. I used them as an equipment to work information from a survey.
When I began teaching in Laugarnesskóli in the autumn of 1986 there were no computers in the school, with the exception of the school committee and secritary. Soon after the school got a single PC which could be moved between classrooms. In a (theme-project) I got the role of overseeing students that wanted to write a news magazine about music prepared on the computer. It was a very fun project. The students were so incredibly enthusiastic that they spent the whole on it even though it had only been planned for a part of the day. In my opinion this project was based on the theories of Social Constructivism.
Since 1990 have I been teaching at school which name is Hamraskóli. I have always been a classteacher at children from 6 - 12 years old, except I have been teaching other classes single subjekts. This year I´m making exception because I´m teaching ICT.
It was a while before Hamraskóli was equipped with computers and it was first in last year that class teachers got computers in their classrooms. Earlier there were usually two computers intended for teachers’ use. Therefore most of all preparatory work relied on the teachers’ personal computers in their homes'.
A computer lab is in the school and has been for a few years but it has often been problemous because of the lack of a technician to take care of computer maintainance. It made teachers less willing to take their classes to the computer lab.
What mentioned above are the main reasons for my lack of knowledge about IT and IT teaching. I however started that kinda teaching for real in last year where I taught 7th graders how to work on the computer and regularly visited our computer lab with both of the current 1st graders and was the teacher for one of those classes. I also used the only computer that was in the classroom for students.
I currently take care of teaching kids in 3rd to 10th grade Information Technology with the exception of 9th grade which is being taught by another teacher.

My interest in IT is linked to the Social Constructivism theory and to make the teaching environment as real and enjoyable as possible for the students. I do not vision myself as a teacher for technical matters but rather as an assistant for bigger projects. I have been very interested in the Storyline theory and would like to associate those ideas as much as possible with IT classes. Grade and IT teachers along with librarians will work together on major/bigger projects. An example would be the WebQuest I am planning/making/(designing). For this to become reality my time table needs to be re-scheduled so that I can work with the same class for about six periods a week.

Another major interest of mine is to use the possibilities available with the various school-networks and information sources similar to the Icelandic, the Nordic and European school networks and Kidlink. I have not got much experience on that field but have been trying to study it further. I possibilities of co-operation for me as a teacher as well as students. The internet offers a great variety of information and opportunities await at every corner.
My third interest is involved with using the internet for distance education. I have been experiencing that on my own this winter in my Information Technology studies. I also attended several lectures about this subject on the IT2003 conference. I believe that this is the future.
And lastly I would like to mention multimedia: how you make multimedia assignments and use the technology in the making of educational assignments.
