Print The Glacier Lagoon

Today the Jökulsárlón is very popular by visitors who enjoy cruising between the huge icebergs on the lagoon.

Jokulsarlon, also referred to as The Glacier-Lagoon, is on the south east coast of Iceland.

Jökulsárlón is a deep lake clustered with floating icebergs, between the Breiđamerkurjökull glacier and a ridge of glacial till.

The glacial lagoon began to form around 1948.

Previously, the Jökulsá river flowed from under the glacier directly out to sea, swiftly and dangerously.

Today the Jökulsárlón is very popular by visitors who enjoy cruising between the huge icebergs on the lagoon.
