GEO. Library search
What to do when you find a book you
want
When your search turns up a book or journal
article which you think would be useful, then you still have to get
it from the library. Here is some advice on how to do
this:
If you find a book in an Icelandic
library:
- you may be able to get it on loan from more
than one library. TELNET searching via GEGNIR at the National
Library allows you to see how many copies there are and in which
libraries they are kept.
- you should go to the library and ask about
photocopying facilities. For most journal articles this will be
necessary, as loans of the originals are generally not
allowed.
- check on whether the book or article is kept
at Hamrahlíð
College Library. Also check on the
collection of photocopied articles kept in the
Hamrahlíð College Library. What you are looking for may
well be there.
If you find a book in a library abroad and are
quite sure that it is not available in Iceland:
- the best way to get what you want is to
contact an Icelandic library (e.g. the National Library) who may
be able to get you a copy of what you want via. international
library loans. Don´t attempt to arrange
an interlibrary loan yourself online. It could cost you a lot of
money!
