Overall design and choice of quality indicators

A consideration of the general comments above and of the survey results

suggested a four-fold quality index, the main categories of which are listed below. The

complete evaluation form is given in Appendix 2.

appl.gif (108 bytes) The pedagogic value of the information and information as presented on

the web pages.

appl.gif (108 bytes) In addition the pages should provide interest and enjoyment (learning is easier if its fun), or at least hold tehe user“s interest.

The following items were used to assess the web pages examined in the survey.   Those items marked ( + ) are regarded as being important to science subjects, those marked with ( - ) are regarded as largely irrelevant.
