This pre-flood view shows the
Skeiðarárjökull glacier (larger) and some smaller
valley glaciers emerging on to the sand at the right of the picture.
Our route stops at one of these and you can see pictures of it by
pressing on the link: glacier pictures. The Skeiðará
river (right) is bridged by the longest bridge in Iceland. One span
of this was destroyed in the flood, while the bridge over the
Gigjá river (left) was completely carried away. You can see

below.
