The sculpture "The burden of history" by the Icelandic artist Magnus Tómasson, depicts 2 nuns bent under the weight of a huge lava slab and illustrates far better than words the close connection between volcanic eruption and human hardship in Iceland. The sculpture is located at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, our first night´s halt.
