Image searching 

• General search engines (images only)
  Lycos (images + sounds) - this is not just science, so be prepared for anything!

• Earth - science image databases.
  Image gallery - searchable image database at the Univ. of British Columbia. Enter key words on a wide range of geological subjects and topics, though mainly from British Columbia. Search options help provided.
  NIX (NASA image exchange) - allows keyword searching of several NASA image databases (e.g. Ames, Goddard and more), either together or singly. Also allows browsing and other options.

   

• Earth - Satellite image searching 
  EarthRISE (SDSC?) - very large and growing database of earth images from the Shuttle flights. All are public domain. Forms search and several options, for example "topography". This is very highly recommended if you want good earth images on a wide range of earth science topics. The "forms" option appears to give best results (personal opinion)
  SAA World Wide Web Interface (NOAA) - satellite image search. Data (lat .long.) can be entered numerically or via interactive map. Good help provided online.
  CCRS Satellite Imagery Catalogue System (Canadian Center for Remote Sensing) - information on images available from a number of satellites including "quick looks" for LANDSAT, SPOTand NOAA. The database is searchable by entering information on time, latitude and longitude
