GEO. Images only
(includes video clips)
The links in this section are to archives where only images (including video) are
stored, or to web pages with minimal text. Sources range from large databases such as
those operated by NASA, to smaller image resource collections of university departments or
individuals. They include satellite images of the Earth and planets, as well as
photographs taken from the ground. Maps are included in these pages. You also have the
option of jumping to image search at any time.

NSSDC Photogallery - large clear, detailed images. Relatively fast loading. Just what you need. Easy to find under planet + object name. (see also under moon)
Planetary image finders (Bob Kanefsky/Responsible NASA official: Sonie Lau ) - a collection of links to mainly image-based web sites, all of which provide high resolution images. Sometimes unprocessed however, or in formats which you may need to have software for.
Views of the solar system (Calvin J Hamilton). This web site contains 950 high quality views of all the main geological features of the planets and smaller bodies of the solar system which have been photographed. There are also accompanying explanations and statistics, but the site is included in this application because selection of images-only is very easy if required.

Views of the solar system - Mercury (Calvin J Hamilton) - see description in 523.4- 523.42Venus
Magellan GIF images. (NASA Planetary Data System) - topography, gravity and other geophysical images from the Magellan programme.
Magellan Image Products (Planetary Data System at MIT) - large database with images of surface features in detail. Several "volumes" of data available. Composite image collections can be browsed and individual features selected by clicking. A very useful feature is that the position of the images on the planet is given and the nearset large feature. Good help provided.
Views of the solar system - Venus (Calvin J Hamilton) - see description in 523.4- 523.43Mars
Mars Global Surveyor (JPL/NASA) - images pages. Tends to concentrate on the equipment but images from the planet may start to appear soon (11 sept ´97)
NASA Photojournal (Mars) (NASA/JPL) - Images arranged according to mission (Viking, Surveyor, Pathfinder etc.). Pop-up menu makes for easy use.
Views of the solar system - Mars (Calvin J Hamilton) - see description in 523.4- 523.44Asteroids (Planetoids)
Views of the solar system - Asteroids (Calvin J Hamilton) - see description in 523.4- 523.45Jupiter
Computer-generated Galileo approach images of Jupiter . 120 images in small and large format. Possibly an easy way of finding the right view of the planet.
Galileo Jupiter animations - series of AVI, QT and MPEG animations of the approach constructed from
Jupiter family (NSSDC) - composite view of Jupiter and its 4 satellites:Io, Europa, Callisto and Ganymede.Views of the solar system - Jupiter (Calvin J Hamilton) - see description in 523.4- 523.46Saturn
